Motorbike Damage Waiver & Insurance in Laos
Riding a motorbike through Laos is an unforgettable experience, but the roads can be challenging. Potholes, loose gravel, dirt tracks and unexpected obstacles are common, and even experienced riders can drop a bike from time to time. To give our customers complete peace of mind, Style Motorbikes offers a damage waiver that protects you from paying for repair costs if the bike is damaged during your rental.

Our damage waiver is available to all riders, regardless of licence type or experience level, and is the closest alternative to full motorbike insurance that can be provided directly in Laos. Prices begin at just $6 per day or $80 for one month, depending on the model you rent.
While the damage waiver covers accidental damage to the rental bike, it’s important to understand its limits. The waiver does not cover third-party damage, fire, water damage, theft, vandalism, flat tyres, personal injuries or medical costs. It also does not cover transportation or recovery fees if the bike needs to be moved due to an incident or police involvement.
For riders who hold the correct domestic motorbike licence and the 1949 International Driving Permit with motorbike endorsement, full motorbike insurance is technically possible in Laos. However, obtaining and claiming against such insurance locally is extremely difficult and may require staying in the country throughout the claims process. For this reason, we strongly recommend arranging cover through your personal travel insurance provider before arriving in Laos. Many comprehensive travel insurance plans already include rental motorbike coverage, often offering full protection.

Even with travel insurance, most policies carry an excess that is higher than the cost of our damage waiver. This means that, in many cases, purchasing the waiver is both the easier and more economical option, especially for minor damage that would otherwise trigger an insurance claim. Insurance should instead be relied on for major incidents involving personal injury or third-party damage – situations not covered by the waiver.

Terms & Conditions
The damage waiver covers against damage to the rental bike in the event of an accident.
The damage waiver does not cover 3rd party damage, fire, water damage, theft, vandalism, flat tyres, personal medical / injury and loss , as well as any cost related to transporting the bike or recovering it from the police.
The damage waiver MUST BE used in our partners and in our shops for the duration of your rental, which means rented bikes can be repaired on the way as we do have a number of partners throughout Laos as well as our Vientiane and Luang Prabang shop.
In the event that a customer is unable to reach one of the Style motorbikes’ partners or our official shops, contact +856 20 9144 5588 so that we can assist you with locating the closest mechanic that can do satisfactory work.
Most local mechanics do not have access to genuine parts or are not able to carry out the work on par to our standards. It is for this reason that customers are required to contact Style Motorbikes on +856 20 9144 5588 beforehand to confirm the repair and the price. Anything done without Style motorbikes’ approval is ineligible to be covered by the damage waiver.
The damage waiver has to be selected before the rental starts and has to be used for all of the rental. If you extend the rental then the damage waiver has to be extended as well.
We offer the damage waiver either on a per day price, for 1 month or for 2 months. If you are over 1 month then you do a pro rata pricing based on 1 month until the 2 month price is reached.
