One-Way Rentals from Pakse

Pakse is the southern anchor of our Laos network, making it the natural end point for riders travelling south through the country — or the starting point for those who want to ride north. Our one-way rental option lets you pick up in Pakse and drop off in Vientiane or Luang Prabang, or arrive in Pakse after a long ride from the north.

One-way routes from Pakse:

  • Pakse → Vientiane — ride north through Savannakhet and central Laos
  • Pakse → Luang Prabang — ride the full length of Laos north to the mountains
  • Pakse → Vientiane → Luang Prabang — the complete south-to-north crossing

See our one-way motorbike rental Laos guide for full details.

Popular Routes from Pakse

Pakse is the best base in Laos for southern riding. The Bolaven Plateau, the 4,000 Islands, and the Xe Champhone Loop are all within reach, while the route north to Vientiane and beyond is one of the great Laos journeys.

Pakse Loop / Bolaven Plateau

The Pakse Loop — also known as the Bolaven Plateau Loop — is one of the most celebrated motorbike routes in Southeast Asia. A 3 to 5 day circuit from Pakse taking in coffee plantations, waterfalls, ethnic minority villages, and the cool highland climate of the plateau. The roads are a mix of tarmac and dirt, making it suitable for most bikes in our fleet, though the KLX230 or NK150 are particularly well suited to the dirt sections. See our dedicated Pakse Loop guide for a full day-by-day itinerary.

4,000 Islands (Si Phan Don)

Around 140km south of Pakse, Si Phan Don — the 4,000 Islands region — is where the Mekong River spreads wide across the Laos–Cambodia border. Don Det and Don Khon are the main islands, reachable by a short ferry crossing. This makes for an excellent 2 to 3 day side trip from Pakse before continuing the loop or heading north.

Connections to Vietnam, Cambodia & Thailand

Pakse’s location in southern Laos makes it one of the best entry and exit points in the region. The Vang Tao / Chong Mek border crossing connects to Thailand, the Bo Y crossing leads to Vietnam’s Central Highlands, and the Veun Kham crossing connects to northern Cambodia. Riders planning a broader Southeast Asia itinerary often use Pakse as a hub. Our team can advise on border crossing requirements for bikes.
