Driving at Night

December 2, 2025 Blog

The roads outside of the cities in Laos can be very dangerous, never plan to ride at night in between cities. The street lights will be few so you will have low visibility, making pot holes and obstacles difficult to see. Once you are out there at night it is pitch black in the mountains.

The pot holes, turns, animals and mud will become that much more dangerous when you can see properly. To avoid these you will have to go slow bringing you speed to a crawl.

If something does happen and you have an accident, even just a flat tire or need petrol, then there is no one else on the road that can help, no mechanic is open nor are many of the petrol stations. Driving at night means you don’t get to enjoy the ride anyway. You can enjoy the scenery if you can’t see the scenery.

But the most important way to avoid the need to ride at night is to make a plan that means you aren’t rushing so that you are not forced to do this. When you rent a bike with Style Motorbikes then we will help you make this plan to ensure you have a good route which allows you to see as much as possible without rushing. Set off early morning, and plan to arrive by lunch time so if something does happen you have all afternoon to find a solution before it is dark.
